Gotham City, 1978 (Earth-Two)
JSA Headquarters

The JSA's headquarters was largely unoccupied tonight, most of the active members at home with their families.  Wildcat and the Star-Spangled Kid, the only active members who currently lived in the headquarters, were both out for the night.  Automated systems monitored news around the world and would trigger signal devices if the JSA was actually needed.

Helena, called the Huntress, stands waiting in the room where the transmatter cube was kept.  The largish transporter was chiefly designed to transport members to Earth-One and the Justice League's satilite headquarters, but it could be set to send people elsewhere, or in this case, recieve a traveler from elsewhere.

Do I really have the right to try and train another hero?  I've only been at this a couple of years now.  Sure, I had the best training a girl could ask for, and I'm working with some of the greatest heroes alive...  But I've also made some big mistakes.  Well, maybe I can use that kind of hindsight.  And God knows this girl needs someone to help her out.  Might as well be me.

Soon enough, Nocturne teleports in. "Hey, Huntress," she says.

"Hey, Nocturne," Helena replies. "You can call me Helena, if you like. No one else around."

"C'mon, let me take you up to the gym. Plenty of room up there."

Helena leads Faye to an elevator, which they take up to the street level portion of the Justice Society's headquarters. A few turns later down a portrait decorated hallway--featuring the various heroes who have been members over the years, from the well known like Superman, to less spotlight grabbing heroes like Mister Terrific--brings them to a well equipped gymnasium. On the whole, it appears to be like any other gym, with a track, exercise equipment, weights, and the like, but there's also what appears to be a few more exotic pieces of equipment.

"Not too shabby, eh?"

"It's pretty cool," she replies.

"Now, I should really say I haven't been doing this crime-fighter thing for all that long myself. I've had good training, but I don't really know if I'm much of a teacher," Helena says.

She goes on. "But I'll do my best. What would you like to start with?"

"Well, what'll be good to start with? I'm already pretty agile, if it helps."

"Yeah, I figured you had to be, with the whole spider-theme you had going on at first. How much training have you had in actual fighting, hand-to-hand stuff, that kind of thing?"

"About a couple of weeks altogether."

Date: 2007-07-03 06:34 am (UTC)

"Not a lot then," she says. "I'm not exactly qualified to make you a black belt or anything, but it's still probably a good place to kick things off."

"Alright. I've trained with a bo staff too, one of those collapsible ones."

"Not a bad skill to have. We'll start with unarmed combat though and work our way up. Little judo, jujitsu, kung-fu, that kind of thing."

"Alright. Shall we start?"

Helena takes Faye through a few simple kata, working on getting some of the basics down, and stops after a while of that.

"Okay, now what I'd really like to do is see you in action. A little sparring, just to get the measure of what you can do."

Huntress drops back into a fighting stance and in one fluid motion, launches a kick toward Faye's midsection.

She sidesteps, launching a punch to Huntress's midsection.

She's faster than Helena expects, stronger too, but she's had plenty of experience with super-powered criminals, up to and including Solomon Grundy. So while she's unable to dodge in time, she rolls with the punch.

She then feints to the right, following with a left hook.

Which manages to score a glancing blow. Should've expected that.

Hey, most of Helena's training may have come from Batman and Catwoman, but she's also gotten more than a fair shake from Wildcat, both in the "sweet science" and in the fairly simply philosophy of "when it doubt, fight dirty."

She presses her attack, dropping low for a leg sweep.

She jumps up as soon as she sees Helena drop low to attack.

((appologies if responses are slow here. I'm not getting notifications here in a timely fashion.))

She's good, Helena thinks. She gets to her feet as soon as she can, braced for a potential attack when Faye lands.

She's been trained by someone with superhuman agility. More than her own, of course. Faye attacks with a kick.

((Maybe I could ping you though AIM?))

Huntress moves out of the way, catching the blow along her side and letting out a grunt of pain.

She executes a backflip, then pushes off from the wall into a flying kick.

She evades, but the kick skims her.

Huntress lands and is on her feet in an instant. "You're pretty good," she says.

"Thanks. Guess it helps being active since I was little." She attacks with a punch.

Huntress ducks under the punch and reaches up to grab Faye's wrist. If she can get the right leverage, she'll flip her over her shoulder.

She's not quite fast enough this time.

She comes in with a punch to the midsection.

And this time Helena's not quite good enough to get out of the way. She takes the punch squarely in the chest and drops to one knee, momentarily short of breath.

"All right," she says, sucking in air slowly. "I think that's enough for tonight."

"Okay," Faye says, helping her up.

Helena gratefully accepts the hand-up. "You're pretty good," she says. "Going to want to keep working on your hand-to-hand skills, just so you can still fight if your powers short out or something, but you've definitely got the skills of this kind of job."
